This web site has been set up and is dedicated to memorialize as well as to celebrate the accomplishments of Sofia T. Gobena, the late daughter of Temesgien and Abebetch B. Gobena and the sister of Lydia and Gejaa. Sofia's untimely departure from this world was a great loss to humanity. Yet, she still occupies a corner of this world as well as a corner of our heart because of her unique distinguished artwork in clay, glass, metal, and twigs.
Sofia was a budding artist when she passed on of a cardiac arrest at the tender age of 38 in Madison, Wisconsin in June 2003. The world community is graciously invited to marvel at her work presented photographically at this website. Any contributions that you may make to her foundation will help future Ethiopian artists particularly those in the field of ceramics.
The Sofia T. Gobena Foundation for Promotion of Education in Ceramics is a tax exempt foundation under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; and contributions are deductible under section 170 of the Code. The Foundation is also qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts under 2055, 2106 or 2522 of the Code.
